A toddler's day on a plate....

We've spoken about both the parent and child's responsibilities at meal times and the principles behind a healthy diet. Let’s put it all together with a sample 'day on a plate'. Parents put a lot of pressure on themselves to be perfect. Go easy on yourself. It's not going to look like this every day. Some days they might have  2 cupcakes for afternoon tea and be so full that they only have a yoghurt for dinner. However, if you've got some guiding principles in the back of your mind, you're already doing great.

Breakfast:

- Porridge or kids weetbix made with full cream milk and mashed/chopped banana

Morning tea:

- Piece of cheese or a yoghurt pouch with some chopped fruit.

- Fruit smoothie made with milk, yoghurt and fruit

Lunch: (think carbohydrate, protein and veggies)

- Tuna sandwich on wholemeal bread with sliced tomato and grated carrot

Afternoon tea: (be careful not to give this too close to dinner)

- Cucumber sticks and hummus

- Cherry tomatoes and falafel balls

Dinner: (think carbohydrate, protein and veggies)

- Healthy fried rice made with brown rice, egg, chicken, spring onion, garlic, grated carrot and zucchini.
